On-site machining, right where your equipment stands.

Since 2006 we have taken portable machine tools to plants across South Africa and neighbouring countries. Flange facing, line boring, hot tapping, tyre grinding and more, machined in situ so your equipment stays where it is.

What we machine in place

On-site machining, also called in-situ or in-position machining, brings portable machine tools to the job. These are the services we carry out at your plant, without taking the equipment to a workshop.

ServiceWhat it does on site
Tyre grinding Renews the running surface of large tyres on rotary kilns, dryers and Yankee dryers, in most cases while the plant keeps running.
Hot tapping Makes a new connection into a live pipeline at up to 100 bar (1,450 psi), so the line does not have to be shut down.
Flange facing Re-cuts a flat, true sealing face on flanges up to 1,829 mm (72″), including gramophone finishes and ring grooves.
Shaft key cutting Cuts new keyways in shafts from 50 mm to 250 mm (2″ to 9.8″) without taking the shaft out.
Milling Mills heat exchanger caps, tube sheets, keyways, grooves and divider plates in position.
Drilling Drills holes in plant and structures with hand-held, magnetic-base or bolted-on machines, and fly cuts oversize holes to size.
Tapping Taps large holes up to 110 mm (4.3″), skew holes and holes with broken taps.
Journal turning Re-turns worn shaft and roll journals from 100 mm to 280 mm (4″ to 11″) back to size.
Line boring Bores worn housings and pin bores from 50 mm to 500 mm (2″ to 20″) back onto one true centreline.
Valve repair Reconditions almost any type and make of valve, mostly on site.
Tube testing Air-tests heat exchanger tubes at up to 6 bar (87 psi) to find even the smallest leak.

Why machine it where it stands

Sending heavy equipment to a workshop means dismantling, transport and refitting before and after the machining itself. Machining it in place removes most of those steps.

Send it to a workshop

  1. Stop the machine
  2. Isolate and dismantle
  3. Transport to the workshop
  4. Machine the part
  5. Transport it back
  6. Refit and align
  7. Restart

Machine it in place

  1. Stop the machine
  2. Set up our machine on it
  3. Machine in place
  4. Restart
